3 Small Shifts

3 Small Shifts that Can Affect Your Consciousness and Bottom Line

You wanted a business where the only limit was YOUR vision. No boss, make your own hours, grow at your own pace, have time for work, family, travel, early comfortable retirement.  I hope that’s working out. If it is and you’re living the dream, great! Congrats to you, but if you’re not and the dream has morphed into less than expected, answer these 3 questions, then consider 3 small shifts.

2 easy questions and a hard one:

Would you really like to be more successful than you are now?

Do you really feel you have the ability to be just that?

How long have you known that?

Converting the dream to the reality, before the dream vanishes, means having more than goals, plans and desires.  Most all self-employed/independent contractors have these, (interesting the % who don’t??!?!!) but changing the habits and attitudes to execute these goals, plans and desires is the difference between having potential and having success.

Thousands of books and recordings (You Tubes, TED Talks, etc.) exist spelling out the “keys to success.”  Most, like the typical infomercial say, “If I can do it, you can do it! Here is the Way and the Light!”  Yet the staggering failure rate in start-ups, and self employeds (the 80/20 rule) continues to exist.  It’s not because the information read or listened to is wrong or won’t work, in fact, most of the information read or heard is probably spot on.

But, as you know, you have to get out of your own way to be available, open (teachable) to the information and have the focus (be present) and consistency (don’t over think situations/Do the Do/Develop a successful rhythm) to follow through.

Ignorance can be the initial adversary because there is So much to know! But once you know the What? How? and WHY? It’s about Doing.  There’s a big difference between Knowing and Doing and a biig difference between having Passion and having Results.

You practice your life in your head all the time.  Thoughts come at the speed of light.  “Who you are,” started before you had your name on a birth certificate.  From birth, brain cells form by the billions every day.  Brain connections build by the trillions every day.

Every influence from what you eat and drink, the smells, the sounds, and the movement of how the pieces fit together…and how they make you feel.  By the time you’re in your teens you’re pretty much (except for the brain’s frontal cortex) cooked. Filters are in place to protect and categorize information that will continue to impact.  What you learned is not of the event or data itself, but of how you stored it in your mental vault.  You practice your Perception of life in your head all the time.  You write your own life scripts.  It’s what makes us all unique and different.  Vive la difference!

And because of your instinct for survival, it’s easy to place labels on thoughts and feelings that make you feel good or bad.  Self-image is created and habits and attitudes are reinforced, keeping you safe.  Safe sometimes can be a  euphemism for stuck. But sabotaging thoughts you now have can be made to work in positive ways.  Any negative habits that you’ve learned can be relearned.

Getting out of a comfort zone or taking your game (business, health, relationships, spirituality) to a higher level for most does not take a complete makeover.  Small shifts in consciousness make huge bottom line differences.

3 small shifts:

  • Practice self hypnosis daily (not just for the occasional headache, sleepless night, to de-escalate a tense situation, etc.) but for consistency in public speaking or giving strong selling presentations, prospecting, learning scripts, automatically making better eating choices, being consistent in your exercise or competitive athletic performance, creating quality time for family, etc.

You can practice perfect performance and the positive feeling of accomplishment in your head more than you ever can in your real world.  Thoughts are real things.  In a state of comfortable relaxation (teachable), as you impact those message storing brain cells with consistency and the perfect message, those cells bundle together to create a new message of who you are and a new habit or attitude is born. Instantaneously?  2 weeks? 3 weeks?  Whatever…it happens.  This is not about will power.  This is about comfortable change and growth working with the chemistry of how your brain works.  Don’t over think it, do it!  (Want help? Learn Self Hypnosis.)

  • Create a small gesture (anchor) or ritual before doing whatever it is you’d like to do with consistency and quality.  Watch almost any good athlete in any sport and you’ll pick up a small “tell” of how they focus (be present) when they need to.  The physical ritual can be a breath, a circle of the fingers on a hand, a clap, a sound made, or??  The idea is to bring thoughts back to this moment, the only moment you have, NOW! Do this little affectation as a gateway to loving what you’re about to do and to do it well.

  • In your real world, act “as if” you already were prospecting, speaking, making better choices, etc.  Cognitive Consistency, feeling good about yourself, happens when your outside world (actions) reflect your inside world (values/thoughts).

Coaches, Mentors, Road Maps to Success, Mastermind Groups, Team Building Events, Bucket Lists, Vision Boards, Social Media, Motivational Pod Casts, Networking Groups, Motivational Superstar Weekends, Management Retreats, Inspirational Apps and whatever the new thing that will come out today…it’s all good.

That being said, the bullet points above are basic realities that work for everyone.  Master these simple life tools now and you will be creating empowering tools that work now and in the future.

Please do share these 3 small shifts.  Thanks.
